Is Your Heat Working Properly?

Updated: Jan 3, 2020

The temperatures for the next several days are going to be some of the coldest St. Louis has seen all year. Here’s some things to check to make sure your furnace is working at its highest efficiency during these colder days to come.

First things first, check and make sure your furnace filter isn’t dirty or needing replacement. A dirty filter can prevent your furnace from working at its full capacity. If it is dirty, either clean the filter or replace it with a new one. This will ensure that the heating system is working as efficiently as possible.

Second, check and make sure the power switch on the furnace is turned “on.”

Third, make sure the batteries in the thermostat are working. If they are not, replace batteries in thermostat. Also make sure the thermostat is set to “heat.”

Fourth, make sure the outside PVC pipe to the furnace isn’t blocked by snow or ice. If it is, remove snow and ice if possible.
